Food Not Bombs
Posted on September 4th, 2005 by Brad Spangler
Peace and anti-poverty group Food Not Bombs is asking for clothes, food, volunteer cooks and money for their Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Yes, they take Paypal.
These people have been reliably doing good work for twenty-five years, have an essentially anti-statist message and really know how to stretch a dollar.
I just now donated ten bucks.
The next ten people who leave a comment on this blog post stating that they then gave $5 or more to Food Not Bombs will extract another $5 matching contribution out of me.

$5 — done!
More on Katrina relief
Brad Spangler brings up a truly excellent group, Food Not Bombs. He offers to match the first ten $5 donations. I’ve kicked in $5. Will you?
I just donated $100.00 ($50 for me and $50 for my spouse) to Food not Bombs, and am spreading the word. I didn’t realize they had a Katrina relief effort, Brad, thanks for the heads up!
Done.
Count me in for $5. Great idea!
All right! That’s the way to do it folks!
I just donated another $20 to match $5 each for you four and can afford to match another 6 people.
Together, we’ve put in $145 so far for a thoroughly good cause. Thank you!
Why didn’t I think of Food Not Bombs before? I’ve already given to both the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity, but I’m gonna have to round up some more loot for FNB. I’ll go with $5 for now.
Freeman: Matched! Good job!
That’s five down and five to go before I’m tapped out for now.
If any of you folks like this idea and have a little extra scratch, why not try the matching contributions thing on your own blog? It’ll leverage your own cash, raise awareness of Food Not Bombs and increase your site traffic. I’ve turned the $60 that I knew I could afford to give into $155 in contributions for FNB as of now — and I’ve only donated $35 so far!

50 bucks in, I’ve worked with FNB chicago before and they do good work. If anybody was gonna help slip supplies in past the guard they would. I donated to the red cross earlier just to find out later that they were obeying orders to not get relief to the folks trapped in new orleans. Very frustrating.
Thanks buerman. Adding my $5 match gets us to $210 and I can match 4 more people.
Yes, it is very frustrating. I’ve heard that Walmart actually sent truckloads of bottled water that were sent back by the fed-goons. And the guy who hotwired a schoolbus to drive his family and neighbors out of there will probably face auto theft charges.
There is a stench of rottenness about. It will take a lot to clear the air.
I kicked in a 20.
Harry: Thank you immensely! Five dollars of it has now been matched!
