BB&T doing the right thing

Although I have my problems with the heavily cartelized banking industry, and a business environment that generally is skewed by government to support large companies, I do enjoy the opportunity to congratulate a large business when they do the right thing — such as respecting the property rights of “the little guy“.

That appears to be the case, with news from the Institute for Justice that financial giant BB&T is promising to forego extending loans to those who steal land from the people via governmental “eminent domain“.

In addition to the IJ piece, there’s coverage from Hammer of Truth, The Volokh Conspiracy and Reason.

I’d like to point out that BB&T has an online contact form on their web site. You might take a couple of minutes to send them a little praise and encouragement for this small eruption of decency on their part, and maybe even let them know you’ll remember them the next time you’re in the market for financial services.
