Will you plead for this man’s life?

For those with an interest in the medical marijuana issue or who simply don’t like the fact that political renegades of any stripe often get quashed like bugs, you may have an interest in pleading for the life of Steve Kubby.

Steve has a rare form of adrenal cancer and basically, according to medical science, should have been dead several years ago. He’s been leading a relatively normal life with the help of medicinal use of cannabis, though.

Steve was one of the key leaders of the officially successful but treacherously undermined effort to legalize medicinal marijuana in California. As a result, he has faced retributive prosecution — prosecution as persecution.

As no provisions in California allow for medicinal use of cannabis in jail, and as Steve would surely — and this is no exaggeration — DIE without his medicine, Steve (along with his family) fled for his life to Canada roughly five years ago and has been fighting a losing legal battle to avoid being sent back ever since.

Steve is being forced by the legal systems of both Canada and the US to return to California today — Thursday, January 26th.

This man will be murdered by the criminal justice system in the same way Peter McWilliams was…

In the same way — denial of politically unapproved medicine he personally needs…

For the same reason — personal advocacy of politically unapproved medicine.

Steve Kubby will surely die unless something extraordinary happens to encourage some measure of mercy to be extended to him.

Steve’s family and supporters have asked those who can’t make it to San Francisco to show their support for him personally to contact the Placer County California District Attorney and express disapproval of inhumane treatment for Steve and plead for his life.

Contact:
Bradford R. Fenocchio
Placer County District Attorney
(530) 889-7000
(530) 889-7129 fax

Here’s what I said to Mr. Fenocchio:

Dear Sir,

I’m contacting you to plead for the life of Steve Kubby. This man will almost surely die if denied medicinal use of cannabis.

You can call it what you want, but just as a rose by any other name is still a rose, murder of a political dissident is still murder of a political dissident.

It would be best if you could somehow find some mercy for Steve Kubby somewhere in your heart. I beg you to do so.
