Carol Moore is blogging: CAROL MOORE REPORT

I owe a fair amount of where I am today in terms of my political views to Carol, albeit only partially and indirectly. It was right around the time of the 2003 Iraq invasion, as I recall. I was among a bunch of newbies on the email list of Carol’s Libertarians for Peace initiative. Taken aback by the surge of pro-war sentiment from libertarians — the people that were supposed to be on our team — a lot of us were asking ourselves and each other: “WTF? Libertarians for Peace? How the HELL did we get to be a god-damned FACTION?“.

I mean, seriously, the understanding that war is mass murder is libertarianism 101.

I then went through a period of questioning and looking for answers, a time that was severely emotionally painful for me because of the time and effort I had put into the Libertarian Party over the years. Try as I might, I could not maintain the self-deception that the Libertarian Party — or any political party — is the best way to carry forward libertarian ideals. The logical culmination of those ideals is a stateless society, and no political party can give us that.

I became an agorist.
