Welfare: The Exterminating Angel

Perhaps the most notable development for left-leaning libertarians over the past several months has been, just as we are beginning to re-assert ourselves as a current within the libertarian movement, a new generation of our old allies have appeared again from out of nowhere to fight imperialism, the emerging police state and the neo-liberal/neo-con elite — the New Left. People, SDS is not only back, but this time the most prevalent influence in that broadly pan-Left coalition is not Maoism but, instead, anarchism!

“We had our first meeting and 15 people showed up. A week later we were blocking military convoys. The week after that we were spending time in jail with each other.” — Olympia SDSer Caleb

Check out this “classic Movement for a Democratic Society (MDS) document on the use of Welfare as a means of social control“. Clearly, mutualist ideas of building alternative, non-state social safety-nets have enormous potential within a movement of those who recognize the corrupting influence of ruling elites and have a revolutionary disposition — which in turn brings to mind Per Bylund’s proposed strategy of fusing that with the agorist conception of counter-economics as market anarchist revolutionary praxis.

Libertarians — quit worrying about elections. Get active. Get radical. Get it through your head that we need to transform ourselves from a political movement into a resistance movement — before it’s to late.
