In which I am tagged and I tag others

Matt Crandall has asked me:

“What motivated you to start looking into Anarchist/Libertarian thought?”

While there are a number of things I could point to that predisposed me towards libertarianism early on, there was a certain specific point at which I became consciously libertarian. That point was my initial exposure to libertarianism as a consistent ideology. All of my ideological development (and wrong turns!) since then have proceeded from the basic principles explained in this one book.

I found that book while wandering through a public library in 1990 looking, as was my occasional habit, for interesting stuff to read. I picked it up out of idle curiousity. I read it and thereby had almost my entire worldview pumped out and replaced. Life ever since has been sort of like getting shot out of a cannon. Continuously. Non-stop. For over seventeen years.
