Bush followup; quote echoes across the years

By way of Information Clearinghouse comes an eerily appropriate quote that seems like a natural followup on my last post.

When the President starts lying he begins to need evidence to back up his lies because in this democracy he is questioned on his statements. It then percolates down through the bureaucracy that you are helping the Boss if you come up with evidence that is supportive of our public position and you are distinctly unhelpful if you commit to paper statements that might leak to the wrong people.

The effect of that is to poison the flow of information to the President himself and to create a situation where a President can be almost, to use a metaphor, psychotically divorced from the realities in which he is acting….Daniel Ellsburg to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, May 13, 1970

Which is he, a liar or delusional? You decide.

The most powerful man in the world is spouting nonsense again:

Bush: U.S. Actions on Iraq Made America More Secure

Is this what it was like in Rome, knowing Nero to be mad? At what point would the empire have degenerated so much that the least capable emperors were considered a blessing by the wise, for they knew them to be hastening the end of it all?

To paraphrase Dan Akroyd: “Tammy, you ignorant slut…”

I was reading up on reports of anti-war protests around the US today, when I saw this article in the Washington Post:

Iraq War Opponents Stage Protest Near Fort Bragg

It quotes one Tammy Harris:

“You’re traitors to our country. Go home! You don’t belong in Fayetteville,” shouted Tammy Harris, who waved a small American flag, as did her four children, as the demonstrators marched past.

They lie to you — all of the time. They even lie to other governments, including their allies.

The Anarchist Inside

Tom Knapp has a great article published on Strike The Root:

The Anarchist Inside

Excerpt:

IngSoc, the government of Orwell’s Oceania , operates on fear. Not on fear of riot or uprising, but fear that so much as a molecule of potential for such might be left in existence. The superstate is not safe so long as anything – anything– remains beyond its reach. And fear, in turn, is also the superstate’s weapon: It is used to preemptively snuff out those inconvenient, kindling flames of individualism.

Gullible IRS employees and social engineering

Dipshits. Utter dipshits. We are governed, harassed, preyed upon and stolen from by idiots.

Auditors Find IRS Workers Prone to Hackers

More than one-third of Internal Revenue Service employees and managers who were contacted by Treasury Department inspectors posing as computer technicians provided their computer login and changed their password, a government report said Wednesday.

Imagine — 35 out of 100. But, hey, they’s a tremendous improvement over 70 out of 100 back in 2001.

Microsoft Remains Firm On Ending VB6 Support

From Slashdot:

Microsoft Remains Firm On Ending VB6 Support

This presents some problems, of course. As the Slashdot poster laments:

If only VB were a F/OSS project instead of a proprietary [one] customers could be assured of continued support as long as there was demand.

Security Gaffes Cited in Courthouse Spree

I was sent this story via e-mail:

Yahoo! News - Security Gaffes Cited in Courthouse Spree

The sender characterized it thus:

The deputy, a 51-year-old woman just 5 feet tall, was simply no match for the inmate she was escorting to the courtroom, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound former college linebacker on trial for rape.

And when the feminists wanted women to have equal access to jobs as law enforcement officers, and men said women shouldnt be police officers, the feminists countered with What are you afraid of?

THIS is what we were afraid of.

A 5 foot tall woman. Jeeeez…..

My take on it was a little different. Keep reading.

Where’s the outcry?

Every time some young person who listens to any kind of edgy, politically incorrect music goes off and does something violent and stupid, we hear from all of the assorted lifestyle-nazis how horrible the music is. They darkly imply or, or (even more ridiculously) openly claim, that the music made the criminal psych case do what they did.

Well, where are those folks now?
